The 2013 Honda Civic claimed yet another award recently by becoming the first compact car to be named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. The IIHS is an independent nonprofit organization that uses scientific criteria to test the safety of consumer vehicles with the intent of reducing traffic deaths, injuries and property damage on the roads of the United States. The IIHS conducts its crash testing at its state of the art facility located in central Virginia. Outside of the individual auto manufacturers, the IIHS offers a 22,000-square foot crash test arena that has the space to test head-on, side impact and single vehicle crash tests.
